- Morris Animal Foundation Recruiting Golden Retrievers for Study
Morris Animal Foundation needs your help. In 2012, the foundation launched the Golden Retriever Lifetime Study, the largest research initiative ever conducted in veterinary medicine. The study is recruiting 3,000 Golden retrievers less than two years of age, along with their owners and veterinarians, into a lifelong observational study to evaluate the influence of diet, genetics and environment on the development of cancer and other diseases.
We have enrolled approximately 500 of the 3,000 dogs needed for this study, and many of the current participants have told us they first heard about the study from their veterinarian. Therefore, we are reaching out to veterinarians through their state veterinary medical associations and asking for assistance in recruiting additional dogs for this study. Visit www.caninelifetimehealth.org or email 4dogs@caninelifetimehealth.org if you have questions.
- Texas Animal Health Commission Continues Testing Equines in Kleberg County for Piroplasmosis
The Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) designated Kleberg County (South Texas) equines (horses, donkeys, ponies, mules and zebras) as high-risk for exposure to Equine Piroplasmosis (Piro) in March 2013. As a result, the TAHC began mandatory testing of all equines in Kleberg County on April 8. The initial Kleberg County test zones extended south from Escondido Creek to the Kleberg-Kenedy county line. Kleberg County equine owners and/or veterinary practitioners who have questions should contact the TAHC Region 5 Office in Beeville at 361/676-0979. For more information on Piroplasmosis, you can also visit www.tahc.state.tx.us/animal_health/equine/piro.html.
